I was forwarded the attached article on the extraordinary strength of spider silk (a nanostructure), and the attempts being made to copy this. Apparently spider silk is ten times stronger than Kevlar! To me the exciting – and humbling – aspect is that these wonderful materials are designed and made by natural processes, incredibly efficiently. Even when we find a way to do this, it will most likely be at a high cost in materials and capital.
